Southbank Rotarian and Mom Kay Ledson walking across America for Spinal Cord Injury – 7 Million steps to raise awareness for Activity Based Recovery

When Kay’s son Josh was injured in a snowboarding accident in June 2000, doctors said that he would never walk again.  What has transpired since, through sheer persistence, determination and incredible passion from his “warrior mom” is that Josh is not only able to walk again, but continues to inspire others to pursue activity based rehabilitation for people who face similar debilitating lives.

Horses For Causes

You will not believe this is Melbourne!!!

Sitting up high in a multistorey building with great views is one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets.  A converted storage space has been magnificently transformed into a Manhattan-style gallery, as you would expect to see in the Arts district in New York.

Housed in this space are 39 life size sculptures – painted horses by some of Australia’s leading artists. The original artists included Ivan Durrant, Penelope Gibson, Eleanor Hart, Pamela Irving, Ellen Jose, Daniel Moynihan, Victor Rubin and Wayne Tindall.

And on 15th November, 2017 they will be up for sale.

James is experienced in training people to become board members and directors.

George Coppin - Entrepreneur Extraordinaire in Colonial Victoria.

Bob Slater from Rotary Club of Kew presented a talk on the 17th October on the Life and Times of George Coppin.

George Coppin was one of the great characters of 19th Century Victoria.

His first love was the Stage, and he was proud to describe himself as a Comedian. But he was much, much more than that.

In all respects he was an entrepreneur, and he displayed this characteristic as a politician (both colonial and municipal government), in sport, in the arts, in entertainment, in Freemasonry, and in philanthropy.

All members of Rotary Club of Southbank, Family & Friends are welcome to attend the Anzac Day Dawn Service this Tuesday Morning followed by a traditional Gunfire Breakfast at the Victoria Barracks for other 5000 members of the public.

This gathering replaces our regular meeting on this day and thanks to our resident Defence Force member Steven Kidziak who is coordinating the event on behalf of the club, will be an opportunity to learn more about the role that our Defence Force plays in protecting our country and allow us to honour those who have served in the past.

6am - 7am      Dawn Service (It is recommended to be in place for 5.45am for the pre-amble address)

7am – 9am     Gun Fire Breakfast at the Victoria Barracks

Tenacious Arrives in Melbourne

Following a 9 Month voyage from the UK, Tall Ship Tenacious has finally arrived in Melbourne, which will become a base as it gives opportunities for people of all abilities (including blind people and those in Wheelchairs) to learn to sail in equal partnership with abler bodied crew.

Journeys will be taken between Melbourne and Geelong, Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney.

Days for Girls Sew-athon

What if not having sanitary supplies meant DAYS without school? Days of isolation?

Girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find...but  still miss up to 2 months of education and opportunity every year. It turns out this issue is a surprising but instrumental key to social change for women all over the world. 

Club members Steven Aquilina and Steven Kidziak have been instrumental in our club in supporting the work of Days for Girls in Nepal and this week will be making more kits in association with Sunday Assembly.

Tall Ship Tenacious coming to Melbourne – Reimagining Capability

Tenacious and its sister ship The Lord Nelson are no ordinary sailing ships.  They have been designed with the vision that if disabled people could sail alongside able-bodied people as part of the crew, it would help break down the prejudices and misunderstandings between people with different circumstances in life.

And on August 27, Tenacious will be arriving in Melbourne ahead of a year of sailing opportunities in a series of voyages from day sailings as well as journeys between different cities around Australia.

Since the devastating Earthquake of 25 April 2015 in Nepal, the world immediately focused on the destruction and the loss of life.

Testing Grounds Outdoor Film Screenings

Films screen from dusk every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night and the program is a constantly evolving collection of local and international shorts, documentaries and music video clips.
