Miles for Smiles Team Leave for Khatmandu

At our meeting on 28th Feb, 2014, we heard from our own member Peter Jones on the eve of departing for 'Miles for Smiles' - a 60 day motorcycle ride with 3 friends through 8 countries covering 6500 miles to raise funds and create awareness for the work of Interplast.

As the former manager of Eureka Tower, Peter came to learn about the work of Interplast as the charity supported by the Eureka Tower Stair Climb.  Interplast, a program started by Rotary with the support of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons provides voluntary medical teams to carry out plastic and reconstructive surgery in developing countries.

Inspired by the work which Interplast do, he and his mates came up with the idea of visiting many of the sites throughout SE Asia where the reconstructive surgery has been undertaken and produce a documentary that will enable Australians to better understand the work that is performed.

Peter and the team are equipped with a GPS tracking device and you can check the updates and whereabouts of the team via the website and Facebook page.

$18,000 has already been raised towards the cause with a lot more expected throughout the journey, particularly the Australian leg of the journey from Perth to Sydney.

Now is the time to think about what you or your club can do in the support of Peter and the whole Miles for Smiles and Interplast teams.
