Southbank Rotary adapts to new home at Boyd.

Back for the new year, Rotary Club of Southbank now meets every Tuesday night at the Boyd Community Centre. Continuing on with our aim of creating a closer connection with the community of Southbank, Boyd represents an opportunity to meet with and interact with residents and visitors to Southbank and learn of the opportunities for developing and enhancing project opportunities with the people who care most about our local community.

With two meetings in the new venue now under wraps,  we have already received an update at our meeting from Melbourne City Mission, heard from Peter Jones on the eve of flying out to Nepal to start his 60 day journey of visiting a number of centres previously supported by Interplast and look forward to a great lineup of speakers in the weeks ahead.

Our meeting on 18th Feb, 2014 is also definately not worth missing with our guest speaker being a retired female topgun pilot from the USA speaking on the work that she now does in supporting the families of mililtary service men and women.

Last week, in the presence of the District Governor of our Rotary District, we also celebrated our donation in 2013 of over $1000 per member to the Rotary International Foundation.  This donation, part of our ongoing effort to develop projects in Bali, with the support of the Rotary Foundation continues on from the leadership of our Southbank club over 11 years ago, following the Bali bombings, to undertake projects in Bali with ongoing and lasting effect.  These projects include support of a mobile womens clinic as well as delivering water to remote villages.

Our first ever youth exchange student Shirin Giesel from Germany has also now been with us for 6 months (how quick has that gone!) and has now moved onto her 3rd host family.  We thank her for sharing with us her experiences of living in our country and bringing new ideas to the club.

Whether you are are interested in supporting your local community, developing a project oversas or networking with local professional leaders and community oriented people,  our club, gives you the opportunity to share your ideas and inspire others to join with you to make it happen.  We do look forward to hearing your ideas and welcome you to join us at our next meeting on Tuesday 4th February, 2014 or any Tuesday thereafter.
