A little Ray of Giving
As we near the holiday break, it's important to remember that for some - it's a very lonely time of year. More than 22,000 young Victorians will experience Xmas with no family and no home. It is a heartbreaking statistic that has only gotten worse over the years.
Regardless of faith, for us, this holiday is a time of feeling thankful and giving back - not to those with a lot, but those with little. You can get into the spirit by giving a present to someone less fortunate. Rotary Southbank and Ray White host a 'Christmas Present Drive called a little Ray of Giving for the Homeless in our midst and organisations like Launch Housing and Steps Outreach Service every year, and we need your help!
Launch Housing provide a crisis centre right here in Southbank for homeless people in our City - For some, even the ability to be be able to give a gift at Christmas is challenged by their own situation of seperation from their own family and children and this is a unique opportunity to give a gift that residents can then give to their children. One gift - Two or more smiles!
Steps is also an invaluable program that provides support and services, including accommodation, food, transport and clothing to homeless youth.
Last year we witnessed a little boy unwrap a fishing rod, and the smile on his face was both uplifting and heartbreaking - we don't realise how good we have it.
You can help buy simply buying and wrapping a gift, then drop it at Ray White Southbank, where they will be distributed over Xmas.
Every bit counts.
