My reason for being in Rotary

I was reminded today of why I needed to go to Rotary tonight.

Two work colleagues, two conversations, one talking of the depression drugs he was taking, in part due to unnecessary pressures at work, the other moving house next week with his wife who is heavily pregnant, wondering if he had enough help.

It reminded me of what we have in Rotary - a support network, a group of friends, a family, a strength of unity of passion and purpose.

National Rotary Success Conference

Canberra - ACT : 5– 6 September 2015

All Rotarians are invited to the 2015 Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit which will be held at the Hellenic Club, Canberra on 5– 6 September 2015. All attendees will be able to have input into the conference breakout sessions over the weekend. It will be a conference that everyone will get something out of.

Who should be attending?  All Rotary Leaders, Presidents and Presidents Elect, PR Chairs, Membership Chairs and Future Rotary Leaders and Rotarians who want to be involved in the continuing success of Rotary in Australia.

Courage Under Fire

One of the highlights of the Recent Rotary District Conference was the presentation made by Rabia Siddique with her story as a Human Rights and Criminal Lawyer.

Rabia Siddique shared her unique story and demonstrated the need for strong role models, agents of change and courageous people to take a stand.

Community Conversation

21st April, 2015

About 70 members of the community gathered at the Boyd Community Hub for a discussion on what Community is all about and how it relates to the unique challenges of a developing Southbank Community.  Present were members of Rotary Club of Southbank, the Southbank Tai Chi group, Boyd tenants, local residents and body corporate groups, Southbank Local News, the City of Melbourne and other interested parties.

Sharon’s Story

For those of us at last week’s meeting, or who watched  Channel 9’s ‘A Current Affair’ last Monday will have learnt of the story of Sharon Chan and her two children (soon to be 3).

With one child with Downs Syndrome and now with leukaemia, a husband (the sole breadwinner in the family) who has recently passed away, and Sharon now preparing to give birth to another child, one can understand the extreme pressure she must be facing.
